Laugh Angeles Foundation

Our mission is to enhance personal health and to promote community well-being through the use of laughter and associated techniques.

We have formed in January 2007 to help and support:

  • The creation and growth of free & public social Laughter Clubs in the Los Angeles area.
  • The spread of the Laughter Yoga method as a simple and accessible healing technique for populations with special needs such as, but not limited to, seniors, physically challenged individuals, veterans, prisoners, parolees, economically disadvantaged groups of individuals, youth at risk, victims of natural disasters (e.g. fires & earthquakes) and people living in isolation.

Our aging population for example is on the rise. We need programs that would enrich the lives of senior citizens and we need to set in motion programs that would enable them to interact with the younger generation. The picture we have of an old person quietly seated in a corner, knitting, reading or even nodding is gone. Most senior citizens are educated, active and can contribute to the life of the community. They need fun and laughter! However it is very sad to see many active senior citizens degenerate into the state of a vegetable simply by being inactive. This needs not be.

Helping establish local, community-based Laughter Clubs is an avenue that is very much worth exploring. The Indian example of thousands upon thousands of Laughter Clubs all over this country - mostly led by seniors - spreading through a grassroots movement proved that great social and personal results could be obtained at no to very minimum cost to the community.

We operate as a foundation under the fiscal sponsorship of the International Humanities Center, a nonprofit organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the IRS Code.
